Gov’t accuses infiltrators for ugly scenes witnessed on Tuesday demos

Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) Tuesday witnessed chaotic scenes as police battle to quell protesters who are demanding government to listen to them as well as justice for protesters who were shot by police.

Major roads in the CBD including Moi Avenue, Kenyatta Avenue and Tom Mboya Streets for the better part of the day were engulfed in teargars as protester engage police in a cat and mouse game.

Two protester were confirmed death with several others nursing injuries while others fighting for their lives in hospitals across Nairobi.

For four weeks now, Nairobi has seen intensified protests which has resulted in shelving of finance bill 2024 and subsequently forcing the president William Ruto to drop allocation of money to the office of the first lady, the second lady and renovation of public offices including that of his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

However, business people have faced the wrath of rogue protesters who have looted their shops and destroyed business premises. In a roundtable interview with the media Sunday, the president said that properties worth Ksh2.4 billion have been destroyed since the protests began.

Infiltration by criminals

Reports of infiltration of the peaceful demonstration by criminals has surfaced prominently in a couple of days, with president Ruto leading the charge to accuse people whom he has not mentioned for funding goons.

In a statement seen by JEDCA MEDIA, DCI boss Mohamed Amin issued a warning to criminals who have been captured breaking and looting businesses in Nairobi, saying that it won’t be long for them to face the rule of law.

“Anyone involved in the criminal activities are reminded that it is just a matter of time before the long arm of the law catches up with them, and that their felonious acts shall be met with the full force of the law,” Amin said.

In other parts of the country, protests continued with calls for president to listen to the people days after he shelved the controversial finance bill which was the trigger of the ongoing protests.
