Google has announced to include more than 40 new languages in its Bard AI. This has been caused by increased curiosity regarding AI in the world. This move is seen as a way in which google is trying to reach more African people since Swahili is spoken by majority of Africans. This means Africa has not been left behind since it has one of their languages included in this new update.

Google has introduced Swahili as the first African language to be included on their AI.  As stated by Rachael Ndichu, Language Manager at Google, “the launch of Bard in Swahili is a major milestone as it allows Bard to reach even more people in Africa, where approximately 150 million people speak Swahili. This makes Bard more accessible to everyone in the region, and we believe that it has the potential to be a powerful tool for creativity and learning. We are excited to see how people in the region use Bard to explore their ideas and discover new things.”

Swahili is spoken in the East and Central part of Africa. The people in this region are regarded to be the most tech savvy people since they have the highest rate of internet penetration and increased smartphone usage in Africa.

This  new Google’s Bard AI feature  is a huge milestone since it has made it readily accessible and available to over 200 million people who speak Swahili in Africa .

Google stated that the addition of more languages and territories would contribute to making Bard more inclusive and safer through feedback from a broader range of users  hence contributing  to their overall mission of organizing the world’s information and making it universally accessible and useful.
