Fly Renegade, a local carrier has launched a new air route from Wilson airport to Kabunde Airstrip in Homabay.
The airline will now operate from Wilson airport to Kabunde airstrip three times a week, a schedule that is likely to be stepped up should the route prove its viability. “We are thrilled to be connecting you to the wonders of Homabay. Come be part of this journey,“ tweeted Fly Renegade.
Homabay governor who accompanied the aircraft on its inaugural flight to the lakeside town of Homabay said that the new air route will open up the region to trade opportunities as well as tourism thus boosting the economy of the region.
“This is big for us as well as our neighbors who will find this journey to Homabay very useful. Homabay has 80 percent of Lake Victoria and therefore the airline is likely to open up trade opportunities in that sphere,“ said Wanga adding that the hospitality industry is also likely to face an aggressive boost owing to the fact that tourists will now throng the hotels and resorts in the region. The launch culminated in an event held at the Kabunde airstrip graced by transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen who assured Fly Renegade of the government support.
